CRITERIA
A. Novelty and Inventiveness
1. Novelty/Originality/Uniqueness
2. Inventiveness (seen as an invention by another who is skilled in the same area of tech)
B. Usefulness and Application
1. Inventor’s knowledge of the invention
2. Contribution to health, safety and environment
C. Presentation and Demonstration
1. Inventor’s knowledge of the invention
2. Functionality of the model/prototype
3. Status of the invention (ready for production)
D. Market/Commercial Potential
1. Market spread (what is the market reach of the product, is it wide or limited/exclusive)
2. Affordability (cost of manufacturing and/or end-consumer price)
3. Marketing strategy (e.g. branding, packaging, advertising and promotion, etc)
Rules of the Competition
1. In conjunction with the 23rd International Invention Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2012, the Ministry of Education Malaysia together with MINDS are jointly organizing the Malaysian Young Inventors Competition 2012.
2. The theme of the competition is “Transforming Society Through Invention”.
3. The objective of the competition is to promote the spirit of creativity & inventiveness among young Malaysians and to instill a sense of social responsibility and ownership to make a better tomorrow.
4. This competition is opened to all school pupils in both primary and secondary schools in Malaysia.
5. This competition will be divided into two categories – Primary Level and Secondary Level. A total of ten prizes, five for each level, will be awarded.
6. This competition is opened to individuals or groups. A group should consist of a maximum of three persons only. Each entry must be submitted through the school using the prescribed entry form. All entry forms together with a concept paper to explain and illustrate the technical details of the invention must only be submitted by pos laju or courier. It should reach the MINDS office latest by Monday, 26 March 2012. Submission by fax or emails are not acceptable. All concept papers submitted are non-returnable. Models of inventions are not required at this stage.
7.Inventions are judged base on the following criteria – novelty, inventiveness, user and environment friendliness, cost effectiveness and commercial potential.
8.Results will be announced on Tuesday, 10 April 2012 via MINDS website.
9.All finalists will be invited to show-case their inventions during the 23rd ITEX 2012 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Kuala Lumpur from 17 to 19 May 2012.
10.The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondences thereon will be entertained.
