3.3 Understanding Atmospheric & Gas Pressure

Gas Pressure:
Force per unit area exerted by the collision of gas molecules & the wall of the container

Atm Pressure:
Weight of the air per area of the earth
Higher altitude, smaller atmospheric pressure. Why? Higher, thinner air...Less weight

Instrument to measure Patm:
- Mercury Barometer
- Fortin Barometer
- Aneroid Barometer

Instrument to measure Pgas:
- U-tube Manometer
- Bourdon Gauge

Unit for Presssure:
a) pascal
b) N/m2
c) atm
d) cmHg
e) m water
